Victorian Old Mine Cut Diamond Swallow Pendant
Victorian Old Mine Cut Diamond Swallow Pendant
Possibly the most insane swallow pendant we've ever seen- we acquired this beautiful Victorian bird on a large cuff than was not original, so we made her more wearable and safe as a statement pendant. she is huge and sports a 2.8" wingspan! She measures 1.6" head to tail, and is studded all over with perfect old mine cut diamonds, which total to approximately 5.9 - 6 carats, G - M color/ VS - I clarity. The diamonds are set in perfectly oxidized silver, which is carved with exquisite, lifelike detail, and the silver is gold backed on the belly of the bird. I absolutely love the face of this swallow- it has the sweetest expression, cutest beak, lovely ruby cabochon eyes, and the most intricate texture on its head. This bird is 9.5 mm thick, and has a weight of 18.3 grams.
Swallows symbolize many things, and were widely loved in the Victorian period, often representing love, hope, or the family; swallows are incredibly loyal and devoted to their nest, children, and partner. They symbolized hope and protection to maritime travelers, as swallows were often a sailor's first sign of land. They are also often seen as a good omen, as swallows are one of the first birds to emerge come spring.
