A versatile piece that functions as both a pendant and a brooch, this Victorian period cross is studded all over with an estimated .5 carat of rose cut diamonds, as well as 20 small rubies and nine pearls. The body of the cross consists of 14.3 grams of solid 15ct yellow gold, and the gems are set in symmetrical patterns along the arms of the cross that resemble butterflies.
The Maltese cross is now associated with the fire service, but in Victorian times it was a popular symbol for women's jewelry. The cross measures 32 x 32 x 4 mm, and has both a pin and a flip-down swivel rotating bail to be worn a variety of ways. This is an exemplary piece in fantastic condition.
