This antique French clover is so good. Made in 18k gold and silver, it weighs 10.8 grams and measures approximately 39 x 31 mm excluding the bail. The center is set with an approximately 0.35 carat old cut diamond, surrounded by another approximately 1.45 carats of old cut diamonds and approximately 2.50 carats of Burmese rubies. I love the way the rubies outline each section of the clover, with the old diamonds running through the center and giving the whole piece this incredible mix of rich color and chunky antique sparkle.
It was made to be worn both as a pendant and a brooch, with detachable fittings for each, which makes it especially versatile for an antique piece of this scale. The open back keeps the stones exposed from behind and shows off the construction of the piece. The stem is engraved “1763,” with French assay marks and numbering to the reverse.
