Here we have a fine example of The Prince of Wales' own, 10th Royal Hussars (XRH) diamond heraldic badge/ pendant/ brooch, which remains a wonderful wearable antique piece of British history. A very well constructed regimental silver (acid tested to 900+ parts out of 1000) and gold (acid tested at 15 karat gold) brooch. It is made up of 44 old cut diamonds set in the silver plumes, and in the "XRH" to the bottom of the piece there are 29 diamonds set in gold.
The gold crown is set with 37 tiny turquoise cabochons beads, some replacements, with the insignia and crown/coronet of the Prince of Wales (POW) including: the three white ostrich feathers (or Plumes of diamonds) emerging from a gold coronet/crown with a ribbon below the crown stating the POW's motto: "ICH DIEN" or " I serve" in gold, white, & blue, enamel. The traditional design of the crown/coronet has both Maltese Crosses and Fleur-de-Lis to the top of the crown in gold.
The measurements (not including the bale), (N-S) 3.3 cm, (E-W) 3.1 from the longest points. The weight is 16 grams. To the back it is stamped "Birks" (Canada) which places this piece around the late 1800's-early 1900s. There is a flip-down bale on the back of the center plume, as well as a pin to be worn wither way!
