A truly magnificent work of art, in the shape of a hyper-realistic chestnut! Or is it a buckeye, or a topless acorn? Whichever nut this locket may be, I'm in love. It's created with the guilloché technique, giving the nut lots of texture, dimension, and depth, especially when the translucent enamel is laid over top. The details continue in the coloration of the enamel, with varying colors of golden-brown used to create the striations of the chestnut shell. The top of the nut is adorned with a well-sized bail, usable with many sizes of chains, and the center portion opens up to be used as a locket, memento holder, or pill box. The enamel has wear and age (shown in last two photos), perfectly imperfect, and it is hallmarked "Micheletto" with a 750 mark and Italian maker punch mark.
Our chestnut is large and solid, weighing 22.6 grams and measuring 23 x 27 x 20 mm!
