The Frida Kahlo – The Transformation Collection Color Change Sapphire Ring

This beautiful sapphire ring was designed for the EJM Transformation collection in honor of Frida Kahlo.  Frida is considered one of Mexico’s greatest artists and began painting mostly self-portraits after she suffered a severe spinal injury in a bus accident. Frida also survived a bout with polio as a child. She is also known for her political activism and in 1929 married fellow artist Diego Rivera. Frida also exhibited her paintings in Paris and Mexico before her death in 1954.  One of her most famous paintings, “The Broken Column” depicts a nearly nude Frida split down the middle, revealing her spine as a shattered decorative column. in the painting she also wears a surgical brace and her skin is studded with tacks or nails. Kahlo endured multiple painful surgeries and suffered from chronic pain for most of her life, which is often reflected in her art. This gorgeous ring is set with a color change sapphire in a tapered 18k mounting with a V shank. The stone changes hues from a light pinkish lavender to a darker purple, depending on the light. It measures 8.7 x 6 mm and the stone is 1.22 carats.
